Sometimes the news of the week feels incredibly bleak. This week, the refugee crisis for Haitians fleeing economic, social, and security shortcomings in Haiti (and many South American countries) became a hotly contested policy issue and caused breakups in the Biden administration. Moreover, there’s the climate, the budgets, the billionaires, and more.

This morning, it took TikTok of all things to remind me that there is little benefit to steeping myself in the bad news of the world, and many benefits to be gained from organizing my actions to help one person or one cause immediately. There’s the neighborhood makeshift food pantry–a fridge parked outside a coffee shop or one of these–where I can drop off food to help a neighbor struggling to buy groceries. I can make a donation, call an elected official, or reach out to a struggling friend. Thank you for reading, and hope you have an enjoyable weekend!

Here’s a look back on the topics from this week’s Daily Stack:

  • Monday, we released our latest in-depth report on the 50 Top Growth Companies of Q2. We broke down some of the top trends shaping the industries that saw success, such as pandemic gaming and rising ransomware attacks. Read the article.
  • For Tuesday’s Investor Highlight, we looked at the star-studded cap tables of a rising number of startups as more and more celebrities get into angel & VC investing. Find out who they are.
  • The beauty industry is expected to be worth $784.6BN by 2025. A growing trend within beauty is the indie darling “clean beauty,” popularized by the health & wellness industry. We broke down the trend and featured some of the top private companies in the space. Check it out.
  • Angel investors and seed-fund VCs have some competition when it comes to partnering with the next Big Thing. Late-stage VCs, private equity firms, and hedge funds are clamoring to get in early on startups with big ideas. Read about the competition for ideas, here.
