Good morning!

As all of us in these COVID times know, there are ongoing supply chain issues affecting everything from cars to computers to soda cans. It makes sense then that, amidst the current boom in investor funding, many investors are betting on companies solving for delivery, efficiency, and transport issues. In the delivery space, we find VCs, PE firms, and hedge funds competing for seed-stage ideas with early-stage investors in the hopes of reaping maximum returns. In supply chain management, we see investors cramming into later-stage funding rounds of companies who already have proven a business model or customer.

Who are the supply chain darlings who have already earned their unicorn horns? For one, there's ShipBob, which received a $1BN valuation during its $200MM Round E in June. The company offers fast, affordable, and simple shipping, catering to the e-commerce brands and crowdfunders just getting started in order fulfillment. ShipBob's customers include a fragrance dupe brand called Dossier and esports lifestyle brand 100 Thieves.

Stord's founders are two early-twenties college dropouts who have a proven passion for business as the best education. Their company offers fulfillment, warehousing, and freight for B2C and B2B, with integrated software for optimizing the entire supply chain. The company has raised four rounds and made two acquisitions, making it a $1.125BN unicorn.

FlockFreight knows the value of a niche in a crowded market of newcomers and industry dinosaurs. That's why the company focuses on the less-than-truckload segment, where truckers carry loads from multiple businesses on one truck. The company seeks to optimize for greater capacity, greater profits, and fewer carbon emissions. A Certified B Corp, the firm partners with to offset customer trips. It has a $1.3BN valuation after a $215MM Round D in October.
