Robinhood is getting a lot of media attention lately for its role at the center of the retail investor trading frenzy in “meme” stocks like Gamestop, AMC, Blackberry, and others. But it’s not the only trading app out there. Here is a curated list of other companies that offer online investing.

  • Webull is a Chinese-born trading platform that offers investment options in stocks, options, and cryptocurrency for zero commission. It has raised four rounds of funding from investors like Xiaomi Ventures, Hongdao Capital, and Gopher Asset Management. Although also guilty like Robinhood of restricting meme stocks, it has received a less critical response from the public.
  • Wealthfront offers a robo-advisor investment platform that allocates your investments into exchange-traded funds. Its other services including a high-interest checking account with no account fees. The Redwood City, California-headquartered company has raised six rounds of funding, with the last equity funding round in January 2018. 
  • Betterment is a competitor to Wealthfront and is considered the leader in robo-advisor investment services for its beginner-friendly platform. The New York-headquartered company also offers retirement and checking accounts. The company has raised 6 rounds of funding, with its last equity funding round in July 2017. 
  • Ally Financial is a publicly-traded company that started as a part of General Motors Acceptance Corporation, helping providing financing loans for automotive customers. It has since diversified its portfolio, rebranded, and is now one of the largest listed banks in the US. Ally Invest, its electronic trading platform, includes an optional robo-advisor that helps with managing your portfolio.
  • Acorns specialize in micro-investing and robo-investing, offering you the ability to invest spare change into pre-built portfolios based on your financial goals as well as other checking and savings bank account options. The company has raised 7 rounds of funding, with its Round E investment in January 2019 from investors like Paypal, NBC Universal, and BlackRock. 
  • SoFi, which is short for Social Finance, offers not only trading in stocks, cryptocurrency, and ETFs but also personal loans, banking, and student loan refinancing, which was its core business model when it first launched. The company has received 15 rounds of funding, with its last equity funding round in May 2020 at a valuation of $8BN+.
Reddit targets Dogecoin
After stocks, cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which was founded as a joke, is the new Reddit board target. It has skyrocketed in value, up 800% at one point on Thursday this week.
