The appetite for plant-based, sustainably raised foods is growing in the U.S. Veganism adoption has seen a 3,000% increase in the last 15 years. With a growing climate crisis threatening our biodiversity, food production, water systems, and weather patterns, the agricultural industrial system developed generations ago is due for an upgrade. Today, we look at the startups meeting the tastes of the 21st century.

Top 10 Private Fastest-Growing Companies in AgTech:

  1. Good Eggs: What started as a glorified CSA box has morphed into a food delivery service that aims to reshape our national food system. The company raised $100MM in February, led by Glade Brook Capital, and experienced rapid growth during the pandemic.

  2. Bowery Farming: After raising a $300MM Series C in May, this New York-based vertical farming company has announced its latest innovation, FarmX, a state of the art R&D facility in New Jersey that increases R&D capacity by 300%, all with the goal of bringing products to market at scale in a fraction of the time.

  3. Guardian Agriculture: This early-stage company develops an integrated eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) system for crop protection, extending growers' reach, reducing environmental impact, and minimizing product resistance. Founded in 2017, the company has raised a $10.5MM seed round in April led by Leaps by Bayer.

  4. Cytozyme: This company produces nutritional support to promote the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms, which boast a whole host of agricultural benefits. They also create more sustainable methods of animal husbandry and aquaculture.

  5. Provivi: Boasting an endorsement from ecology legend Jane Goodall, Provivi creates sustainable pest control using pheromones. The company just raised $20MM from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation.

  6. Ag Leader: Bringing technology to the fields from its HQ in Ames, Iowa, Ag Leader is a software company that connects industrial equipment for smart-farming. Think "Alexa, grow peas."

  7. FarmLogs: Out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, FarmLogs seeks to make farming modern through its software, which records everything from weather patterns to Profit & Loss statements.

  8. EFC Systems: A software company that handles the entire agribusiness supply chain. Like the systems from #6 & #7 above, EFC's technological advances increase crop yield (and profits) through detailed metrics.

  9. Greenlight Biosciences: This biotechnology company raised a $102MM round D led by Morningside Ventures last year in order to further develop biocontrols to safely remove pests without harm to the plants.

  10. Farmigo: This Silicon Valley startup serves small farmers by offering CSA subscriptions and e-commerce software specifically designed for their businesses.
