The year 2021 was the year ideas seemingly unheard of became the new normal. Millions of employees were no longer waiting for offices to reopen and therefore adapted by moving to work remotely or quitting their day jobs for new gigs. Mental health became just as important as physical health and far from taboo to talk about. And digital artwork, known as NFTs, became the new luxury accessory, at least for a certain subset of the population.

While mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies is still up for debate, there are signals of a New Year with crypto-lined pockets. Hannah Miller, a reporter at The Information, predicts that crypto will see its biggest year yet, with Bitcoin hitting the $100K mark as greater adoption boosts the most prominent cryptocurrency’s price. She also foresees that legacy banking institutions will get more involved and imagines JPMorgan will purchase a crypto exchange like FTX or bitFlyer.

Meanwhile, Kara Yuyieff, also of The Information, hears rumblings of YouTube offering another cutting-edge opportunity for their creators to make money through an NFT marketplace. Other creator economy companies have been toying with the idea, but it looks like YouTube will be first to launch.

For more predictions of what’s to come, stay tuned for this week’s end-of-year coverage.
