Founded in 1961 by Jim Pattison, The Jim Pattison Group is a privately-held diversified conglomerate based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The third largest private company in Canada, The Jim Pattison Group employs more than 33,000 people, and operates from 449 locations across the world (figures as of October 2010, please see PrivCo's Charts and Statistics on Jim Pattison for the most current Employee Counts and number of operating locations). The Jim Pattison Group has a presence in a wide range of industries, including packaging, food sales and distribution, magazine distribution, entertainment, export and financial. The group expanded its operations through a string of acquisitions that include a February 2008 acquisition of Guinness World Records from HIT entertainment and a 2010 acquisition of the Ripley's Believe It or Not! franchise (please see PrivCo's Jim Pattison M&A Activity Table for a detailed information on each deal). Jim Pattison's food division owns the leading food retailer, Buy-Low Foods, and is the marketer of GoldSeal, a well-known canned salmon in Canada. Jim Pattison Group's entertainment subsidiary, Ripley Entertainment, Inc., is the owner of Ripley's Believe It or Not! and Guinness World Records Museum. Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison is the sole owner of the Jim Pattison Group.
