Overshadowing all industry-related news this week is yet another horrifying mass shooting. The rallying cry for an end to violent crimes was given by none other than Steve Kerr, coach of the Warrior's basketball team. Politicians are scrambling once and for all to pass a piece of legislation that would expand and strengthen background checks for sales of weapons, the bare minimum to prevent these kinds of attacks. Biden brought up a ban on assault-style weapons in his remarks after the Buffalo shooting that left 10 dead. That measure has not been touched since failing in 2013 shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting. Texas has been an example of one step forward, two steps back gun legislation amidst frequent incidents of gun violence. I agree with Coach Kerr. Enough.

Meanwhile, looking back on this week's topics:
  • Monday, we looked at how savvy financial companies have captured the hearts and wallets of a younger generation. Millennials and Gen Z may be skeptical of big banks, but they're embracing fresh startups in 'buy-now, pay-later.' Learn more.
  • How are the startup groomers at Y Combinator advising young companies entering their first bear market? Find out.
  • Small businesses bring variety, innovation, and excitement to our city streets and lives. Not long after surviving pandemic shutdowns, companies are at risk once again. See how they're fighting to stay alive.
  • Yesterday, we talked about micromobility, from New York to Paris. See how people are getting around and what micromobility means for city leaders and streets. Read about it.
