In the post-pandemic modern workplace, collaboration tools are essential for employee productivity, especially for designers who focus on parts of a bigger product when designing products for visual or UI/UX needs and need feedback from multiple stakeholders. As 25-30% of the workforce will shift towards partial remote work, even as offices open up, collaboration tools offered by startups are thriving as demand increases.

  • Figma, the direct competitor to Adobe, was labeled in Okta’s annual survey as one of the fastest-growing apps of 2020 and its success is a result of not just the pandemic but the fact that Figma's tool has won the hearts of designers. The startup has already closed 5 rounds of funding, at a recent extremely high valuation, and is one of the hottest tech startups all around.
  • Mural offers a digital drawing board workspace for collaboration into which you can drag-and-drop rich media files, links, and documents. It is also a tool designers can use to brainstorm ideas remotely. The company’s Round B funding in August was a whopping $118 MM, driving its valuation up almost 7 times since the beginning of 2020.
  • InvisionApp offers a web-based tool and mobile app that turns designs into fully active prototypes as well as allows clients to provide feedback in the form of comments on created designs. Already a unicorn in 2017, the New York-based company’s last two rounds of funding were $100MM or more. It prides itself on being remote-first from day one of its founding.
  • Visme offers a cloud-based collaboration tool to create visual presentations and infographics as well as monitor progress and workload.
  • Basecamp is considered the father of project management founded long before task management platforms like Asana and Trello in 1999. With collaboration capabilities and status trackers, designers and other project managers can see a streamlined view of tasks all in one with Basecamp, including email threads and real-time chatting features. The fully remote company is funded by Jeff Bezo’s personal VC.
