2012 PRIVATE TECH M&A FINANCIAL ADVISOR TRENDS

(1) Rise of In-House Tech M&A Teams: During 2012, PrivCo private tech company M&A data showed a trend of strategic corporate acquirers of private tech companies relying more on their respective in-house M&A teams - composed of ex-investment bankers, M&A lawyers, and other financial professionals - and sourcing their own deals (many using the PrivCo Private Company Financial Platform to do so), particularly for smaller acquisitions, rather than engaging an investment bank for the M&A process.

(2) Accounting Firms' M&A Services Moving In On Wall Street's Traditional Role: This past year also saw the rise in PrivCo's private tech company M&A financial advisor rankings by accounting firms (through their M&A services groups, typically called Transaction Advisory Services), such as PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) (ranked in the Top 5 last year at #5), Ernst & Young (ranked #6), and KPMG (ranked #9). "With pre-existing auditing relationships, especially with venture-backed private technology companies, these accounting & consulting firms are first in line to pitch the company on their Transaction Advisory Services (M&A) practices when the time comes to sell," said PrivCo Founder & CEO Sam Hamadeh in a statement.
