Business Summary
Founded several decades ago by high-end society fashion designer Valentino Garavani, and based in Milan, Italty, The Valentino Fashion Group S.p.A. manufactures designer apparel and accessories under storied brands including Valentino and menswear label Hugo Boss, and the luxury clothing brand Missoni (particularly known for its luxurious thick, patterned sweaters). The Valentino Fashion Group also owns a minority stake in New York based fashion house Proenza Schouler. Valentino Fashion Group was harmed by the 2008 to 2009 recession, and global revenues fell (see PrivCo Financials for Valentino Fashion Group). Detailed Business Description: Valentino Fashion Group S.p.A.
Fashion designer Valentino Garavani reached acclaim in the 1960s and 1970s designing high-end and couture womens wear for high-society women, including Jackie Kennedy and Princess Grace to Nancy Reagan in the 1980s. Today, Mr. Garavani retired, The Valentino Fashion Group is an Italian based empire owning eight high-end fashion labels: Valentino, Marlboro Classics, Hugo Boss, Lebole, Missoni, Portrait, Oxon, and Proenza Schouler (a small fashion label in which Valentino Fashion Group owns a minority stake).
Having once been combined with family-run Italian textile giant Marzotto, Marzotto split itself into two halves in 2005: Marzotto for textile manufacturing and The Valentino Fashion Group containing the company's apparel labels. CEO Stefano Sassi, who had run Marzotto prior to the split, continued on to run Valentino Fashion Group.
