uShip operates an online marketplace for household good, vehicle, and livestock shipping. The marketplace links customers looking for shipping quotes to transportation providers capable of moving a wide range of objects. Customers have the choice of naming their price or to open an auction in which shipping providers offer decreasing bids. The system results in shipping quotes at discounts of 50% commercial shipping rates. This attracts customers with large or unusual items, which would otherwise be extremely expensive to ship through traditional channels.
uShip was built to take advantage of the excess capacity of empty trucks throughout the world. The eBay like system allows the excess capacity to be utilized, creating a cheap, efficient method of shipping all types of items. uShip fills the gaps in the networks of shipping carriers and brokers so they can make additional revenues and maximize their returns.
