Founders Lynn Jurich and Edward Fenster founded SunRun, Inc. on the premise that the “solar as a service” business model used for commercial office buildings could be applied to the residential market. In the “solar as a service” model for commercial offices, solar developers installed solar panels and building owners signed long-term maintenance and power supply contracts with the solar developer. In 2007, SunRun, Inc. was the first to offer a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for residential solar.
As part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), SunRun provides financing, installation, maintenance and insurance for residential solar systems. Residential customers sign 20-year agreements to pay a monthly fixed rate for the solar electricity generated by the newly installed system.
