Sound Sales
Sennheiser's biggest revenue driver is its headphones business, which accounted for nearly 35% of 2010 sales. The private sound company has a 23% market share (by value) in Europe. This does not come as a surprise, since Sennheiser's headphones are relatively expensive. It has pointed to its "consumer-oriented" product differentiation as a key driver for headphone sales growth. In fact, the company has many different varieties of in-ear headphones, including a collection dual-branded with Adidas targeted at athletic music lovers. These headphones are sold through Adidas retail locations in addition to electronics stores that sell Sennheiser products. In addition to the partnership with Adidas, Sennheiser has partnered with music groups such as Simple Plan to promote Sennheiser audio equipment.
