Business Model
Privately-held Fenway Sports Group (FSG) operates as a subsidiary of Sinn Fein, L.P. and is one of the largest sports, media and entertainment companies in the world. Headquartered in Boston, MA, FSG was founded in 2001 by John Henry and Thomas Werner.
FSG is the holding company of Fenway Sports Management, the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club, acquired in October 2010. It also operates both teams’ stadiums, Fenway Park and Anfield Stadium, respectively. FSG also has an 80% stake in the New England Sports Network and a 50% stake in NASCAR team Roush Fenway Racing.
FSG’s expansion from the Red Sox into other industries and countries came as an effort to grow the company, since consistently sold out games at Fenway Park left little room for revenue growth.
