Meebo was founded in 2005 by Seth Sternberg, Elaine Wherry, and Sandy Jen. The company’s services are intended to connect people with common interests across the web.
In its inception in 2006, Meebo offered instant messaging merging service that supports multiple IM services such as Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, ICQ, MySpaceIM, and Facebook Chat. To support this feature, Meebo released the Meebo Me widget later that year to allow users to embed its messaging service into their own websites.
In 2007, Meebo released Meebo Room, a service that allowed up to 80 people set up in a chat room that can be viewed in both Meebo.com and in their personal websites.
