Detailed Business Description: LifeLock, Inc.
Revenues
LifeLock's revenues come from its customer's subscription fees. Its basic LifeLock product costs $10/month or $110/year, and its LifeLock Ultimate product costs $275/year.
Expenses
LifeLock's primary expense comes from insuring its customers. The company's financial success, given enough demand for its product, comes from pricing its product at a level so that the aggregate user subscription fees more than cover the cost of reimbursing those users who do experience identity theft. Because the company's identity theft services (monitoring and alerts) are mainly electronic, LifeLock's premium services do not cost the firm much marginal expense. In addition, LifeLock's "$1M Identity Theft Service Guarantee" only covers litigation-related expenses. Because LifeLock has an in-house legal team, this offering is mostly a gimmick.
Penalty for Deceptive Business Practices
To gain its customers' trust, LifeLock's CEO, Todd Davis, advertised his social security number on the… Continue Reading →
