Kiva Systems, Inc. is a privately-held and venture capital backed company that designs and manufactures mobile robots for order fulfillment in distribution warehouses. The Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System (Kiva MFS) enables fast cycle times with reduced labor requirements for receiving, picking, packing and shipping. Kiva automates e-commerce and catalog direct-to-consumer fulfillment, business-to-business order fulfillment, retail store re-stocking operations, industrial MRO and parts distribution, work-in-process parts supply functions, medical and hospital restocking programs and other order processing operations across a diverse spectrum of vertical markets. On March 19, 2012, Kiva Systems was acquired by Amazon for $775 million. Founded in 2003, Kiva Systems is based in Woburn, Massachusetts.

Kiva Systems, Inc. (Kiva) was founded in 2003 and until 2005, operated in stealth mode while developing a prototype of its proprietary mobile robot which is now marketed as the Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System. In 2004, Kiva ran a successful paid pilot with Staples in a portion of one of Staples' distribution warehouses. In the summer of 2006, Staples became the first customer to fully deploy the Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System when it installed 500 robots in a 650,000 sq. ft. warehouse. After improving the efficiency of its order fulfillment by two to three times, Staples deployed the Kiva MFS in a second warehouse in 2007. Kiva has since deployed its systems in warehouses for more than 25 corporate customers in North America, the UK and Europe.
