Infinia Corp.
Business Summary
Infinia Corp. is a renewable energy company which focuses on using its 31 patents, including a proprietary Stirling engine design, to develop environment-friendly applications. As of December 2009, the company spends most of its production capabilities on the Infinia Solar System (ISS)—a solar dish that generates electricity by focusing the suns rays into what is known as a Stirling engine. Infinia also manufactures products, such as its Micro CHP and Remote Power, aimed at powering homes and isolated areas. The Washington-based company has caught the eye of several deep-pocketed investors like Paul Allen and Vinod Khosla, who see the solar thermal industry worth several “Google’s” in the future.

Detailed Business Description: Infinia Corp.
Stirling Technology
Infinia was a company long before CEO J.D. Sitton renamed it from "Stirling Technology". Formed in the 1985, Stirling Technology was built around designing applications for its proprietary—well, you guessed it—Stirling engine, the core technology behind all of Infinia’s products. The engine works by converting a temperature difference into mechanical energy via the expansion and compression of helium as an internal piston guides the force across the machine. A few of these devices can run just from the warmth of a regular coffee cup.
The concept itself isn’t new, however. In fact, it’s centuries old. It was patented by Robert Stirling in 1816, but Stirling Technology developed a variant that required no piston—enabling a portable, highly-efficient, noise-free generator. With patents in hand, Infinia’s predecessor went on to develop an artificial heart, remote power applications for the military, and solutions for… Continue Reading →
