Hunch also connects users to other users that share their tastes. The private Internet company launched its website in June, 2009 and reached 1.2 million unique visitors some 8 months later. By march of that year, the firm had collected over 50 million answers about its users' tastes. Hunch was founded in 2008 and was headquartered in New York, New York.

In November, 2011, Hunch was acquired by eBay Inc. for a price rumored at $80 million. CEO and co-founder Chris Dixon will lead the eBay recommendations team in New York, which eBay will grow to 200 people.
