CDN's provide a high speed fiber and computer system infrastructure to deliver video, music, games, applications, and a variety of other internet content. EdgeCast is a growing CDN provider offering global bandwidth solutions to a over 4,000 customers. Major Edgecast customers include Gawker, IMAX, tumblr, Yahoo!, Lionsgate, Break.com, The Atlantic, LinkedIn, and imgur. In total, Edgecast carried approximately 5% of all internet bandwidth in 2011.
EdgeCast is able to offer superior speed at low prices through its unique "Supercharged Points of Presence (SuperPOP)" strategy. The strategy entails placing large data center locations near Internet Exchange Points. EdgeCast outfits these locations with large amounts of computing and caching power.
