Amar Bose, an electrical engineering professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, founded Bose Corporation in 1964 after being disappointed by the performance of a newly purchased high-end stereo system. Dr. Bose started his company at the suggestion of MIT professor Y.W. Lee, who also supported Bose with $10,000 in start-up capital.

Detailed Business Description: Bose Corporation
Company History
In 1968, after extensive research in the fields of speaker design and psychoacoustics, Bose developed its first 901 Direct/Reflecting speaker. The speaker offered a unique blend of reflected and direct sound, which in turn produced an unprecedented similarity to a live musical performance. Later in 1972, Bose Corporation started selling loudspeakers for professional musicians. Meanwhile, innovations at Bose continued to develop.
In 1984, fourteen years of research led to the development of the acoustic waveguide speaker technology, which allowed smaller, portable speakers and sound systems to produce big sound. Based on waveguide speaker technology, Bose introduced the Wave radio, Wave music system, and Acoustic Wave music systems.
