Alcohol Monitoring Systems is a privately-held, venture capital-backed company that provides alcohol monitoring systems and location monitoring systems to law enforcement agencies, probation and rehabilitation professionals, and other designated alcohol use monitors. Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Inc. owns patents to the SCRAM line of alcohol monitoring ankle bracelets. SCRAMx is the new version of the SCRAM bracelet that incorporates house arrest monitoring technologies. SCRAM bracelets are worn by persons prohibited from consuming alcohol, including repeat drunk driving offenders. During the offender's mandatory period of abstinence from alcohol, the SCRAM bracelet tests perspiration every thirty minutes for traces of ethanol in the offender's perspiration, and gives measurements of transdermal alcohol content (TAC), a proxy for BAC.
SCRAM Base Station and SCRAMNet
The bracelet uploads reading results to the SCRAMx base station, which is kept in the offender's home or place of work.
