Privately-held Masonite International Corporation is an Ontario, Canada-based company, headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Masonite makes all things related to doors: interior and exterior doors, door components, door entry systems, commercial and residential doors. Masonite also holds the patent for its namesake Masonite compound, created by company founder William H. Mason. As of 2010, it operates 80 facilities in approximately 16 countries around the world. Masonite manufactures approximately 120,000 doors of various kinds, including interior and exterior wood doors, fiberglass doors and metal doors, in a single day. In 2005, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. purchased the company for $2.7 billion. On March 16, 2009, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. After restructuring, Masonite emerged as a private company June 9 of that same year.
