The Dallas, Texas-based Energy Future Holdings Corporation is one of the largest providers of non-regulated retail electricity in Texas, serving approximately 2.2 million customers over nearly 117,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines. The company generates more than 18,300 megawatts of power from its various power plants in Texas. Energy Future Holdings Corporation’s portfolio includes TXU Energy, Luminant and Oncor. Energy Future Holdings Corporation (formerly called TXU before the company was taken private in a large leveraged buyout in 2007 by leading several private equity firms including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) & Co., TPG and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners. While Energy Future Holdings Corp's underlying energy business is profitable, Energy Future Holdings' profits have eluded it because of the sevel hundreds of million of dollars it must pay on its LBO acquisition debt, as well as tens of millions of dollars of continued management banking fees it must be to its private equity firm owners.
